The VP2E. My favorite portable antenna.
VP2E stands for Vertically Polarized 2 Element antenna.
The advantage is that the antenna can be mounted on a low (non-conductive mast). On 14 MHz, the antenna performs significantly better than a dipole. The antenna gain is about 3 dBd.
This antenna is especially interesting for DX, because of the low take off angle.
On one side, a distance of 6.4 meters from the end of the antenna, a break is made, a plate is inserted to form the insulator and a 50-ohm cable is soldered there. No Balun is necessary. The center core of the coax is connected to the longer section and the braid to the shorter one.
Try this antenna. You will be amazed at the good results.
On 7 Mhz this antenna acts an off center fed dipole.
